Early Morning Knitting

I absolutely love getting up early before anyone else is up and spending some uninterrupted time knitting.

Today I spent an hour of bliss working on my Vouvray shawl. It's a beautifully big shawl with a slipped stitch pattern designed by the incredibly talented Melanie Berg.

I'm using cascade 220 super wash in black & storm blue. Being a worsted weight shawl it has certainly felt different then the sock weight yarn shawls I usually make - but I'm loving it!!!

Here's a little progress picture:-

The colours are proving difficult to capture correctly in this light- the contrast colour way is much more a light greyish blue.

Hue Shift Colours

I've been working pretty much consistently on my Hue Shift Afghan and I am loving it!

It is being knit using Stylecraft Special DK yarn which is an acrylic yarn that is incredibly soft and extremely cost effective - perfect for blankets. I've used this yarn before to crochet and loved it but wasn't sure what it would be like to knit with. But it is great!!!

I used it in the crocheted Coast Ripple designed by Lucy of Attic 24 I made my Dad for his birthday. He loved it.

Knitting with it is proving to be equally as wonderful.

This afghan has a tremendous amount of ends to weave in. I had planned to deal with them as I went along but really find myself wanting to just keep making the next colour combination.

You can see an example of my ends in this photom:-

They're pretty bad aren't they? Oh well I'll face that challenge when I've finished knitting all the squares.

Birthday Today & Exhausted!!!!

Well today I turn 44yo - can't believe that I am actually that old. I am actually feeling ancient as I was awake for 20 straight yesterday & then only got 4 hrs sleep last night before having to get back up for work today.

Why such a long day? Well had an early start at work & then this happened .....

Yes I went to the One Direction concert with my daughter last night. Absolutely great show but took forever to get home afterwards.

Here's a photo of us before the show started.

Isn't my daughter beautiful?

Niall Horan is our favourite out of all the boys - love his Irish accent & he seems so sweet.

We got tickets a few days before the show and we're thrilled to find how close we were to the stage - was such a fun night.

I think I'm ready for an early bed time - I don't even have the energy to knit!!!!

My Knitting Knook

I am very lucky that I have a whole room for my crafty pursuits. No one goes in there but me - which is great as it means I can always find my stuff and I can keep it as messy or as tidy as I like (at the moment it really looks a bit messy as have really just dumped my last few rather large yarn purchases and half completed projects in baskets everywhere.

While I have this wonderful space to myself I find that I spend most of my time knitting or crocheting in the family room - I even have a little side table just for me to keep some things I need at the ready.

Here is a couple of photos I took after I tidied it up today.

I love seeing these colours against my favourite teal & Aqua coloured table and bowl - it makes me so happy to walk past and see them sitting there.

That's about it for this quick little check in.

Serious Yarn Addiction

Well I remember making a decision to avoid buying any new yarn this year as I already have an extensive stash, but that didn't even last a whole month as these goodies followed me home the other week.

How yummy does all this yarn look? Have no real plans for any of it at the moment but it looks soooo good.  Some of the yarn I bought online at Love Knitting and some I bought on an outing with my friend Sue to Kaalund Yarns and Yarn Glorious Yarn. The crochet hooks I bought on eBay.

Yarn Glorious Yarn is such a pretty little shop in Brisbane and stocks some of the prettiest yarns.  the owner Sue and her lovely employee Kristen are two of the  loveliest people you will ever meet. always happy & smiling and very helpful.

What have I been working on? Well I finished the quicksilver shawl I posted about previously and have made in roads with my hue shift afghan.  Will need to take some photos to post here.

Got to go as am falling asleep as I type & am making more typos than usual. Will try & post the photos this week.

New Year, New Blog, New KAL, New Shawl

Well 2015 is here so I have decided to restart an old blog of mine with a revamp.  I'm not sure if anyone will ever read anything I post but I'm not starting to blog for that reason - I am blogging to document what is going on with me (especially my yarny craftings). I'm not sure how often I'll get a chance to blog but am going to aim for at least one a week.

On the 4th January I cast on for a new shawl KAL.  I am making Quicksilver, a beautiful shawl by Melanie Berg.  The KAL is running until the 30th January and so far I have been enjoying everything about this shawl.

I am making this with madelinetosh merino light in Tart, Stovepipe & Silver Fox. I absoloutely love this yarn and was completely shocked when I counted 30 skeins in my stash.  I think I should also aim to make 2015 a stash busting year.

These are the colours for my shawl and I think they look so nice together.

The shawl is made up of nine repeats of the stripe & mesh wedge sections and I am currently up to the 6th section.

I cant wait to get this finished as my brain has already moved onto a few other projects I'm itching to make. I've also joined the 12 Shawls Forever group on Ravelry so the goal is to make 12 shawls during 2015 - looking at my Ravelry Queue I am not spoilt for choice this year.

Well since I spent ages working on the layout of this blog an dhavent had my knitting needles in my hands at all today - I'm going to sign off so I can get back to work on this shawl.
